The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) provides independent eco-labelling for timber products. It is one of the most respected and demanded standard for consumers looking for ethical products. The FSC promotes environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world’s forests. IKEA, The Body Shop, leading European, UK, and US hardware chains all demand FSC certification for their timber products.
7 years ago FSC Australia was established. Its Board includes Friends of the Earth, The Wilderness Society, the native forest, plantation and paper sectors and social chamber members. For 7 years former enemies have worked to establish FSC in Australia and in doing so are changing the forest debate in Australia.
Tim Anderson, a long-time local forest campaigner, has been a founding member and the Chair (2009/10) of the FSC Australia Board. Tim will explain what FSC is, the effects it has already had on the forest debate in Australia and how to have your input into the Australian FSC standard.
